Reduced Carbon Footprint with Impact

Discover how Impact, PEFC-certified insulation materials are helping the UK reduce its carbon footprint. Learn about sustainable sourcing, energy efficiency, and eco-friendly building solutions for a greener future.

Insulation plays a critical role in lowering the environmental impact of buildings. In the UK, around 25–30% of a property’s heat is lost through the roof, according to the Energy Saving Trust, and heating accounts for roughly 40% of household energy use and carbon emissions, as reported by the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Improving the thermal efficiency of the building envelope is therefore essential in meeting the UK’s net-zero targets.

As part of this transition, Recticel develops polyurethane (PIR) insulation solutions designed to support lower operational energy use and long-term sustainability goals. The company’s approach is guided by a carbon reduction pathway validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning its activities with global climate objectives.

Recticel integrates a range of sustainability-focused initiatives across its operations — including bio-based product development, PEFC-certified sourcing, dedicated recycling facilities, and continuous efforts to improve material circularity. These measures contribute to making Recticel insulation panels a reliable component in the energy and circular transition of the UK construction sector.

New EPD Highlights Recticel UK’s Commitment to Transparent Environmental Data

Recticel UK has published a new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) in its technical documentation to provide third-party verified, transparent information about the environmental performance of several of its PIR insulation products. This EPD covers products including Eurothane GP, Instafit, Eurowall+, Eurowall Cavity, and Eurothane Eurodeck, and is made available in the “Certificates” section of Recticel’s website. The declaration follows recognized standards (e.g. EN 15804+A2, ISO 14025) and is based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) that quantifies impacts across stages from raw material extraction, manufacturing, transport, installation, use and end-of-life. By making this data publicly accessible, Recticel enables specifiers, architects, and clients in the UK to compare environmental impacts on a like-for-like basis and supports more informed decision-making in low carbon construction.

Structuring Commitments for Carbon Neutrality Aligned with the SBTi

Since 2022, Recticel has aligned its climate strategy with the internationally recognised Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), ensuring that its carbon reduction pathway is consistent with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The company has set clear targets: to achieve Net Zero emissions for Scopes 1 and 2 by 2030, and to extend this neutrality to Scope 3 by 2050.

To stay on track, Recticel continues to implement a range of measures across its operations. Within its UK manufacturing facilities, energy efficiency improvements are a constant focus - including the replacement of luminaires with smart LED systems, optimisation of packaging ovens, and the development of on-site solar energy projects. In addition, all Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are scheduled for update by the end of 2025, ensuring they reflect the most current technical and environmental data. This commitment to transparency supports informed decision-making throughout the construction value chain.

Eco-design also plays a central role in Recticel’s approach — guiding the development of insulation panels designed for greater recovery, dismantling, and potential reuse in the future, supporting progress toward a circular construction model.

Recticel Insulation Becomes First PIR/PUR Manufacturer to Earn PEFC Certification for Sustainable Multilayer Solutions

Recticel Insulation is pleased to announce that it has obtained certification under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) scheme for its multilayer thermal insulation solutions. This achievement makes Recticel the first PIR/PUR insulation manufacturer authorised to use the PEFC environmental label.

The PEFC is a leading global alliance of national forest certification systems, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. As a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, it promotes forest management practices that are environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable, through independent third-party verification.

As part of this certification, Recticel’s multilayer paper facings are now produced using wood fibres sourced from PEFC-certified, sustainably managed forests. This approach strengthens traceability within the supply chain and supports responsible material sourcing in line with the company’s wider sustainability strategy.

The PEFC label will appear on several Recticel insulation solutions, including Eurothane® GP, Eurowall® Cavity, and Eurothane® Eurodeck, providing customers with verifiable assurance of sustainable sourcing throughout the product lifecycle.
